Seniors'
Section
The Seniors' Section is open to all men over the age of 55. it is one
of the most thriving sections of the club with nearly 80 members.
Its objective is to provide a means by which its members can play
golf with other club members in a varied and convivial format. The
intention is that members widen the range of golf that they play
whilst getting to know other club members.
Beginners are most welcome...
New members are
most welcome and it must be emphasised that it is not necessary
to have an official handicap to play.
Formal meets every Monday...
The Section meets formally every Monday morning with play starting
at 8:15am. Partners are drawn as the players arrive; so that, over
a period of time, each member will have played with every other
member. The format varies considerably: Medal and Stableford are
the most common, but team events such as Texas Scramble and Better
Ball are also played. After the round, players meet in the clubhouse
for lunch while the prizes (of wine and golfballs) are awarded.
In addition to this, the Seniors meet informally on a Friday morning on
a regular basis, provided that the course is not otherwise booked.
An active fixture list...
The seniors have an active fixture list against other clubs in the
area. During the season they play 11 other clubs on a home and away
basis. It is a good test of golf to play on different courses, some
of which have more water that The Springs!
Three times a year, the Seniors play in a competition with the Springs
Ladies Section. This is followed by a lunch in the clubhouse. The
highlight of the social events is the Christmas lunch, which follows
a 9-hole competition on the last Monday before Christmas.
